An Important Message About Sustainability
Yancey's Fancy has always been dedicated to delivering unique and delicious cheeses, but in recent years, we have become more and more focused on sustainability initiatives within our company and our products. In that spirit, we have decided to remove wax coatings from our cheeses since it does not perform any necessary function.
Cheese wax is a petroleum-based solid, which means that its manufacture relies on the extraction and refining of oil, complete with all of the negative effects of refining fossil fuels and their released greenhouse gasses. And while its creation is not environmentally friendly, neither is its disposal. The wax coating takes an extremely long time to biodegrade, and it cannot be composted, adding to refuse building up in landfills.
