A JOURNEY OF PASSION: From Bavaria to New York

Leo Kutter made the courageous journey from Bavaria to the heart of American cheesemaking: New York State. He brought his skill to Cowlesville, specializing in Limburger cheese and keeping the fires burning until the disruptions of WWII.

1947

BUILDING THE FOUNDATION IN CORFU, NY

Post-war, Leo built a brand-new factory in Corfu, NY, establishing the foundation for our current operation. He began crafting classics: Swiss, brick, cheddar, and Limburger, establishing a reputation for quality that still defines us today.

1962

THE BIRTH OF A FLAVOR DYNASTY: THE FIRST HORSERADISH CHEDDAR

When Leo's sons, Richard and Tony, took the lead, they didn't just maintain the business—they revolutionized it. Their landmark partnership with the Yancey family sparked the creation that changed the game: the very first Horseradish Cheddar. This bold, inspired addition cemented our reputation as an innovator in full-bodied flavor.

As the Kutter brothers retired, new leadership acquired the business and factory, rebranding as Yancey's Fancy. The new brand was built on the rock-solid Kutter foundation, committed to preserving that legacy of quality and daring artisan flavor.

By pivoting the brand toward bold innovation, Eric transformed Yancey’s Fancy into the "House of Flavor." Driven by a personal passion for spice and a relentless pursuit of the "perfect bite," he remains hands-on in the R&D lab, ensuring every block meets the Yancey’s Fancy standards of excellence in texture, consistency, and visual flair.
